These ballerinas have grace, grit, and precision as they fight for their lives in this action-packed thriller, Pretty Lethal.
The film, directed by Vicky Jewson and written by Kate Freund, follows five ballerinas who find themselves in a fight for their lives after seeking shelter at a mysterious roadside inn run by a former ballet prodigy. Featuring Maddie Ziegler, Avantika Vandanapu, Millicent Simmonds, Lana Condor, Iris Apatow, and Uma Thurman, the ensemble brings a fun, suspenseful energy to the film, blending elegance with edge as the story spirals into survival‑mode chaos.
The film, which premiered at SXSW 2026, blends grace and brutality in a way that stands out at the festival, letting its elegance sharpen the violence rather than soften it. The two themes don't just coexist; they collide and circle each other like choreography, pulling you in every shift in tone. It's that contrast that hooks you and refuses to let go.

The actresses even described enduring a three-week ballet bootcamp and stunt rehearsals in Budapest in order to better prepare for their roles as deadly ballerinas at SXSW.
Throughout the movie, the actresses bring a fierce energy, with Ziegler and Condor delivering standout intensity, while Vandanapu, Simmonds, and Apatow's characters each add their own distinct flair. Together, their character strengths and personalities collide in compelling ways as they fight for their lives.
Even Thurman’s character adds a sharp, menacing tension, her presence building toward an explosive finale that reframes her as a tragically fallen ballerina.
The crowd went wild as each actress fought her way through the chaos, the audience fully locked in and cheering through every razor-sharp action sequence.
Director Jewson said she drew inspiration from classic action films, but even more from her own background as a former ballerina and from the toughness of the girlfriends she grew up with.
“My best friend growing up was a black belt. I was a ballerina going to school, then having my ballet bag that had all these crazy weapons in it, and I sat in class and shaved my shoes and no one had a problem with it, ” Jewson said.
Jewson said she really wanted to play with that idea and genre, pushing the boundaries of what a ballet-infused action film could look like.
Pretty Lethal is set to premiere on March 25, 2026, on Amazon Prime Video, delivering a blend of suspense and action sequences that spotlight the actresses’ athleticism and chemistry as prima ballerinas.
