5 Pie Recipes for Thanksgiving
The holidays are officially in full swing, and it’s time to break out your baking dishes! As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, take some time to gather your ingredients and get inspired for all your seasonal treats. From classic pumpkin pie to creative, non-traditional twists, here are five pie recipes worth trying.
1. Oreo Cream Pie
Not typically seen at a traditional Thanksgiving dinner feast, an Oreo cream pie will surprisingly delight your guests. Take cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, heavy whipping cream, along with 10-12 crushed Oreos to make your filling. For the pie itself, mix in some melted butter and more crushed Oreos (about 25) until the texture and crust is sturdy, then add your creamy filling for a dessert that’s as easy as it is irresistible. Check out the full recipe here.
2. Shepherd’s Pie
A delicious and savory pie, shepherd’s pie can make for a great dish to bring to a Thanksgiving potluck, Friendsgiving, or incorporate it as a side dish at any holiday gathering. Choose between ground beef, ground chicken, or ground turkey plus flour, potatoes, garlic, veggies, beef broth, salt, and pepper. Finish it off by blending sour cream and shredded cheese into the mashed potatoes for a creamy, golden topping that ties the whole dish together.
3. Cranberry Apple Pie
Cranberries and apples make an amazing mix, and this combo is perfect for the holidays. You can make your own pie crust from scratch or use a pre-made pie crust from the store. In addition, you will need about 2 cups of cranberries, ¾ sugar, sliced and peeled apples, cornstarch, cinnamon, and butter. Add your apples and cranberries into the crust, then combine the other ingredients into a separate bowl then mix them over the pie. Bake accordingly and enjoy! Full recipe here.
4. Pumpkin Pie
Classic and traditional, pumpkin pie is a must-have during the fall. Although many stores typically carry pumpkin pie during this time, try baking your own if you have time, as it makes for a festive and creative touch. For pumpkin pie, you will need eggs, white sugar, brown sugar, salt, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, heavy whipping cream, milk, ground cloves, ginger, and pumpkin puree. In a bowl, slowly add in the salt, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg, then add in the milk and heavy whipping cream until smooth. Pour the mixture into a prepared pie shell, and it’s ready for baking.
5. Pumpkin Cheesecake Pie
Add a fun twist to your classic pumpkin pie by making a pumpkin cheesecake pie! To prepare the filling, start by beating the cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Mix in the sugar, then add the pumpkin purée, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and flour. Gradually add the eggs one at a time, mixing just until fully combined. Finish by folding in the sour cream to create a rich, velvety batter perfect for pouring into your prepared crust.
